US military spending accounts for 48 percent, or almost half, of the world’s total military spending
US military spending is more than the next 46 highest spending countries in the world combined
US military spending is 5.8 times more than China, 10.2 times more than Russia, and 98.6 times more than Iran.
US military spending is almost 55 times the spending on the six “rogue” states (Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Sudan and Syria) whose spending amounts to around $13 billion, maximum. (Tabulated data does not include four of the six, as the data only lists nations that have spent over 1 billion in the year, so their budget is assumed to be $1 billion each)
US spending is more than the combined spending of the next 45 countries. The United States and its strongest allies (the NATO countries, Japan, South Korea and Australia) spend $1.1 trillion on their militaries combined, representing 72 percent of the world’s total.
The six potential “enemies,” Russia, and China together account for about $205 billion or 29% of the US military budget.”
“[T]he lion’s share of this money is not spent by the Pentagon on protecting American citizens. It goes to supporting U.S. military activities, including interventions, throughout the world. Were this budget and the organization it finances called the ‘Military Department,’ then attitudes might be quite different. Americans are willing to pay for defense, but they would probably be much less willing to spend billions of dollars if the money were labeled ‘Foreign Military Operations.

Having owned rabbits (and loved them to death), I know how true this illustration is.
Salutations. I arrived in Singapore at 6.30pm fine - the flight was very pleasant, and I was expecting it to be much longer -, and got a cab straight to the Parliament. The Arts House was not difficult to find, so I arrived walking there just in time for the last speech of the night by the Acting Minister of Information. With the launch dinner - didn’t eat too much, had no appetite, I presume, too overwhelmed - over after some measure of mingling, I started trying out the numbers Lee Ek from BackHome KL (a lifesaver like no other!) had suggested me. Most of the top-rated places were booked tonight, just tonight, which is rather unfortunate. Betel Box wasn’t booked, and was going for $20 tonight. The catch was that Betel Box was located somewhat towards the suburb- outer-parts of Singapore, in Paya Lebar. It wasn’t anything more than an MRT four stops away from City Hall, though, and a ten minute walk from the MRT station to Joo Chiat Road, where the hotel was. Passing by the noisiest Chinese karaoke/pubs I have ever heard, I’ve found myself at Betel Box, this cozy, lovely place. I think I’ll be fine tonight. Breakfast’s provided and I’ll be off by 8.30am to get to The Arts House again. An amazingly gorgeous place. I should charge my camera now, I suppose. Tomorrow’s and Sunday’s accommodation has already been booked. Wishing you all well! -A On Oct 23, 2009, at 11:11 PM, Rahman, Ruslan wrote: > Please update us via email or sms on your lodging status. > > Thanks and Regards, > > Ruslan Rahman > > Amirul Ruslan Writer TELL Media e: amirul@tell.com.my m: +6014-6313772
